Windsor Border Info:

 

There are two easy ways into Windsor, Ontario, Canada by car , taxi & bus,
the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and the Ambassador Bridge.

The Detroit-Windsor border crossing is the busiest border crossing in-between
the United States and Canada.

The toll rate for the bridge and the tunnel on the Canadian side are,
$3.50 US or $4.50 CDN.

The toll rate for the bridge and the tunnel on the American side are,
$4.50 US or $5.75 CDN.

The Ambassador Bridge offers currency exchange in certain toll lanes, indicated
by neon lights. The Detroit-Windsor tunnel offers currency exchange in their
plazas on each side of the border.

If you are planning on staying at a hotel on Huron Church Road, I recommend taking
the bridge. When you exit the bridge you are on Huron Church Road.
If you are staying downtown or at Casino Windsor, take the tunnel.
The tunnel also offers Bus service between Downtown Detroit and Downtown Windsor.

Since September 11th there are reports that border crossings are smooth sailing
all day & all night.

The worst times to cross the Windsor border if you are in a hurry are
Monday - Friday 6am - 9am & 4pm - 6pm & Weekend evenings

Tunnel Directions:

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is located in Downtown Detroit, off Jefferson Avenue.
You can easily end up on Jefferson from the North Central Suburbs by taking I-75 South
to I-375, which ends a block from the Tunnel. From the North Eastern Suburbs
take I-94 East to M-10 South(Exit Left), which delivers you to Jefferson Avenue.
If coming from the North Western Suburbs, take M-10 South, it turns into Jefferson
Avenue two blocks from the tunnel. From the West or South take I-94 East or I-75 North
to M-10 South, which will deliver you onto Jefferson Avenue.

Bridge Directions:

The Ambassador Bridge is located at Lafyatte and Interstate 75.
From the North Central Suburbs take I-75 South to the Porter Street Exit.
From the North Eastern Suburbs take I-94 West to I-96 East, which will take you
to the Ambassador Bridge. From the North West Suburbs take M-10 South to I-75 South,
Exit Porter Street. From the West, take I-96 East to the Ambassador Bridge.
From the South take I-75 to the Ambassador Bridge.

What you'll need to cross the border:

U.S. and Canadian citizens are required to carry identification.
Legal residents of the U.S. must carry an alien registration card and
landed immigrants in Canada must have evidence of landed status.
People who are temporarily in the U.S. or in Canada must carry their
national passport and, where required, a visitor's visa.
